Link: Confessions of a LinkedIn Dropout.
A nice piece in Business Week by the previously mentioned blogger extraordinaire, Jeff Pulver (http://pulverblog.pulver.com/), who kindly gave a shout out to me on his blog today. As I see it, there are the world's first level bloggers, those with name cache like Jeff, and the second level ones, like me, who reference and admire them. :-) Perhaps I should aspire to be a first level blogger, but that will require a branding change from consumer semiconductor girl to something broader, and like all good marketing plans, I am working the details carefully.
Anyway, enjoy Jeff's story. An interesting point is Jeff finds LinkedIn too flat. I understand what he's saying, and it's similar to what I have said--the way LinkedIn is set up today, your network is primarily your resource, and secondarily, the network itself is loosely a resource for the members. This limits its utility and for some, its stickiness and appeal.
Facebook in theory is about bringing your network together. I sense an interesting mashup possibility (heck, a utility to find your LinkedIn or Facebook contacts on the other site would be incredibily useful, and go a long way to improving the value of both networks, HINT HINT).
